BULLISH RACING TO RACE AT NHRA TOPEKA WITH POINTS LEAD INTACT
TOPEKA, Kansas (May 26, 2005) – Following a four-week tour of their home state of New Jersey, the Bullish Motor Racing team is back on the road for a three-week road trip starting with the Nitto NHRA Sport Compact Summernationals, May 27-29, Heartland Park, Topeka, Kansas, the second series event to be featured at a NHRA POWERade event. Team owner and driver Ara Arslanian heads into the fifth round of the 11-race NHRA Xplod Sport Compact Race Series maintaining a slim 1-point lead in the season championship.
The team hits the road following an appearance at the SEMA International Auto Salon, May 20-22, Atlantic City, N.J., where Arslanian and three Bullish Racing vehicles were under spotlights. The StreetGlow-sponsored Solara was prominently parked in the NHRA Xplod Racing Series Racer’s Row all weekend while Arslanian made appearances at the NHRA Xplod driver autograph session and at the SEMA IAS car show parade stage – where Arslanian introduced the twin-turbo 3.0 L 2JZ-powered Bullish AEM Import Dragster to a packed house. To round the showcase of current and future Bullish Racing machines, Arslanian also brought out one from the past – the original Bullish Racing Supra that became the first factory six-speed Supra to break the nine-second barrier. The historic Supra, displayed in the UrbanRacer.Com booth, surprised show goers during the entire show.
“We had a great time showing off the entire stable of Bulls at the SEMA IAS show,” said Arslanian. “The show was another great opportunity for our program and our sponsors to get in front of our fans. Race weekends are always busy, but in a show like the IAS, everybody can get an up close view of our cars.”
The Bullish Racing team last raced at the Northeast NHRA Sport Compact Nationals, Atco, New Jersey, May 14-15, following an earlier home stand at the Nitto NHRA Sport Compact Nationals at Englishtown, NJ. At the Atco event, Arslanian raced to a semifinal finish. The performance was good enough to stave off challenges from competitors Matt Hartford, Steph Papadakis, and Brad Personett.
“We were lucky to leave Atco with the lead. Everybody is doing a great job of stepping up this year and its making for some of the best racing ever. We’re just going to have to step up our program too. Topeka is an important race in more ways than one. Obviously, being hosted by a NHRA POWERade event again puts on some pressure to perform; but having the points lead nearing the halfway point of the season would also be a big plus.”
The focus for the team since the third race of the series is to settle down into a consistent rhythm. Last year, that consistency took the team to the top of the NDRA XBOX Cup and to a third place finish in the NHRA Xplod series. With the changes associated with a switch to the more powerful Turbonetics twin-turbocharged HKS 3.4 L stroker engine program however, the team has been challenged to find new baselines even at tracks that the team traditionally has run well at. Topeka will be no different. Arslanian raced to a semifinal finish at the StreetGlow Extreme Rush event at Topeka last year and look to improve upon that result this year.
“Topeka is a great facility and the running in front of the POWERade crowd is always exciting. Our focus though will be on getting the Solara down the track as quick as possible; our goal is to leave Topeka with the points lead.”
A win or successful outing at Topeka would also wrap up the Nitto NHRA Trifecta bonus program for Arslanian. The program is tracking points of every driver in the series in the three Nitto-sponsored national events and awards winning drivers of each NHRA Xplod Pro category a special Nitto Diamond Tree Ring. Looking further down the road, the team will leave Topeka to immediately travel to the fifth round of the NDRA XBOX Cup, in which Arslanian is also leading in championship points, at Moroso Motorsports Park, Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. That race will be followed successively by an appearance at the Mopar Mountain Madness NHRA Sport Compact Naitonals in Denver, Colo.
