BULLISH CHASE FOR '05 NHRA CHAMPIONSHIP BEGINS THIS WEEKEND
PALM BEACH GARDENS, Florida (March 30, 2005) – Just a little over five months ago, Bullish Racing owner and driver was involved in a thrilling three-way points chase that ended in the closest Pro RWD finish in the history of the NHRA Sport Compact Drag Racing Series. This weekend at the Southeast NHRA Sport Compact Nationals, April 2-3, it starts all over again with everybody even.
Hosted by the sun drenched facilities of Moroso Motorsports Park in Palm Beach Gardens, FL, the season opening race for the 2005 NHRA Pro RWD Championship will once again mark the beginning of a high stakes battle between more than a dozen turbocharged sport compacts looking for ownership of one title.
“We can’t wait to get the season rolling in Moroso,” said Arslanian. “This is already the second race for us this year, but in a lot of ways, this is our first race of the year. We went out cold to the NDRA Phoenix opener with a totally brand new 3.4L HKS-stroker engine program and a new twin-Turbonetics turbocharger system. We walked away with second place, but more importantly – we walked away with five rounds of track data and a 6.8-sec best pass.”
Last year’s epic battle played out to a dramatic last race, last round finish between Arslanian and competitors Steph Papadakis and Matt Scranton. When the smoke cleared, only 37 points separated the three drivers, with Scranton edging out for the title. Arslanian finished third, but it was an amazing feat considering a he had only walked away from a potentially disastrous wreck that destroyed one of the famous Bullish StreetGlow Solaras a few months earlier at an NDRA event. That accident also forced Arslanian to miss the Texas round of the NHRA series, which could have been the deciding factor in the season outcome. Arslanian is not counting on providence to give him the edge this weekend though, the Bullish crew have been perfecting their new 3.4L 2JZ Inline-6 till since the team’s Phoenix debut.
“The StreetGlow Solara is definitely the veteran of the ProRWD class, but we’re not ready to join the retirement association just yet. While we were competitive last year, this is an entirely different program this year. Five passes into the engine program and we were already seeing some of the best half track performances ever. Anybody discounting us will be doing it at their own peril. The team has done a great job in prepping the car for Moroso – we’ve optimized our gearing and tune-up from what we’ve learned at Phoenix. And I’ve personally had a monkey on my back at Moroso for the past two years; I’m ready to get rid of it.”
Fans not able to attend the race, but interested in following the event can follow up-to-the-minute results on www.nhrasportcompact.com. The entire event will also be recorded for television broadcast on ESPN2, Thursday, April 14, 2 p.m.
