BULLISH RACING HEADS SOUTH FOR NDRA NOPI SOUTH FLORIDA
WEST PALM BEACH, Florida (June 3, 2005) – Continuing on their two series season schedule, the Bullish Motor Racing team now heads to Moroso Motorsports Park for the NOPI South Florida event, the fifth race in the 12-race 2005 NDRA XBOX Cup Racing Series. Team owner and driver Ara Arslanian, the two-time defending NDRA Pro Compact Champion, returns to the Moroso blacktop in the StreetGlow-sponsored Solara with an 80-point lead in the season points chase. Despite the healthy lead though, Arslanian and the Bullish crew are taking no chances, even delaying a hoped for debut of their AEM Import Dragster, to focus on the Solara program.
“We’re here to have fun, but our priority has been and always will be to deliver a championship to our sponsors and fans,” said Arslanian. “Some of the bad weather at previous events has meant limited track time, which is very important in the development of our Turbonetics twin-turbo HKS 3.4 L 2JZ Stroker engine program – especially when you are running a full 24-event, 2-series schedule like we are.”
The team’s last appearance at the Nitto NHRA Summer Nationals in Heartland Park Topeka last weekend was the latest illustration of how limited track time has strained the team’s ability to continue development of the new for 2005 engine program. Rain showers cancelled two of three qualifying sessions, leaving the team to resort to a “safe” tuneup for the third and only qualifying session. When that tuneup proved not ideal for track conditions, the team backed down settings further, only to have track conditions change. A first round loss to competitor Matt Hartford followed.
“We’ve had to keep our resources focused on the Solara to make up for the lost time. Unfortunately, It’s forced us to delay what we had hoped would be the introduction weekend of our AEM Import Dragster. We’ll still put on a great show for our fans with the Solara.”
Despite only a week between the Topeka, Kansas and the Florida races, the Bullish crew was able to return to their New Jersey facilities and make some needed adjustments ahead of this weekend’s race. Arslanian’s last visit to Moroso was during the NHRA season opener in March. That event marked the debut of the twin-turbo, 3.4L engine specification and netted the team a best ever performance of 6.64/202. In the time since the debut, the Bullish crew has been working hard to establish workable baselines – something that’s proved difficult with the variety of track and weather conditions that the team has run into as of late.
“This is the right time to get our program ready for the rest of the season. We’re in good spots in both series – third in the NHRA and first in the NDRA – so we’re not stressed. But we know the competition level will increase for the rest of the year and we’re going to be ready for it.”
Work on the team’s AEM Import Dragster is almost complete, with only final plumbing and wiring work to be finished. The dragster is a twin-turbo 3.0L 2JZ powered Top Alcohol-style rail dragster and will vie for the title of quickest and fastest import-powered dragster in the world when it debuts. Arslanian remains committed to the debut the AEM Import Dragster this summer.
“We’re trying to restrain our excitement with the dragster. We want to get that thing on the track and light up those big slicks. With two huge turbos hanging a foot away from my head, there’s going to be no feeling like it in the world. We want to get it out there for our fans and sponsors soon. But, mostly I want to get it out there so I can point the nose down the track and drop the hammer. It’ll be out soon.”
The NOPI South Florida event will be taped for broadcast on SPEED Channel’s Nopi TunerVision on a future date. In addition, results of the competition will be posted daily at the series website accessible at www.nopi.com .
