BULLISH SOLARA AND IMPORT DRAGSTER SET FOR NOPI ST. LOUIS SHOWDOWN
ST. LOUIS, Missouri (July 21, 2005) – The summer racing season has proven to be a tough one for the Bullish Motor Racing team. After starting with three wins and two runner-up finishes in the first six races of the racing season, the team’s StreetGlow-sponsored Solara and team owner and driver Ara Arslanian have been in a slump of sorts. Besides a successful high-profile match race against Pro Stock racer Bob Benza during the July 4th weekend, the May-July months have brought first and semifinal round exits in five races.
“There’s no doubt that we’re in final round drought,” said Arslanian. “In fact, this is the first time in our Solara program history that we’ve gone five straight races without a final round appearance. We’ve been working on breaking the streak though and we’re confident that we’ll end it in St. Louis.”
Arslanian and the team are quick to point out that the string of first round and semifinal round exits aren’t attributable to only one factor though. While the team debuted a potent new twin Turbonetics turbocharged 3.4 L HKS Stroker 2JZ engine program at the start of this year, restricted track time has been the main limiting factor in the development of the full potential of the new engine package. The lack of track time of course is directly tied in with the fact that the Bullish team is still the only professional team competing in full NHRA and NDRA race schedules – 22 races in all.
“I’ve said this many times before, but its worth repeating. And as long as we have fans and sponsors, we’ll be at every race – It’s simple. There’s the championship and the ‘fanpionship’, and we’re fighting for both.”
That fight this weekend will take on a new look though as the team made significant changes to the Solara’s engine program.
For St. Louis, we took advantage of the few weekends off we had in July to make some major changes to the turbo system. We’ve been playing around with eliminating the induction characteristics and the intercooling system and we’re confident we’ve found the right combination now. Basically, we’ve eliminated the intercooler system – we we’re still at least 50 pounds above the minimum weight requirements this season, so the deletion of the intercooler components should help get us closer to everybody else. We’re gonna make the ol’ girl dance again this weekend.”
Ahead of the weekend, Arslanian remains firmly in the NDRA XBOX Cup Championship points lead with a 102-point advantage over competitor Matt Hartford. Arslanian, the defending XBOX Cup Champion is seeking an unprecedented third straight XBOX championship. Besides the changes with the Solara though, the team has also been busy developing the ground breaking Pro Extreme category Bullish AEM Import Dragster. Though the twin turbo 3.0 L (Supra engine) - powered dragster has already visited the tarmac at two earlier events, Arslanian and the team are still working on for a first, no holds barred full pass.
“This weekend may be it. I hope it is for the St. Louis fans. We’ve found some weak links that had to be addressed in the driveline, but that’s to be expected in something as unique as this. Like when we first rolled out our Solaras in 2002, there are no blueprints to follow. That’s OK though, otherwise the 5-second import barrier would already be broken.”
