BULLISH RACING SET TO TURN UP BOOST AT NDRA MARYLAND

MECHANICSVILLE, Maryland (April 9, 2005) – Just one week after recording a new team-best performance at the NHRA season opener, the Bullish Motor Racing team is looking for even greater success at the upcoming second round of the NOPI XBOX Cup Racing Series at Maryland International Raceway, April 10-11. Bullish Motor Racing team owner and driver Ara Arslanian drove his StreetGlow-sponsored Solara to a 6.644-second/202.38-mph blast at last week’s race – only five passes into a completely new engine program.

The new for 2005 twin Turbonetics turbocharged, HKS 3.4L-stroker 2JZ engine program has shown great success incredibly early in the program. This weekend, armed with data from two events, the team is planning to slowly shed away a conservative tuning plan and turn up the wick on the team’s StreetGlow-sponsored Solara one click at a time. With the excellent racing surfaces at MIR, site of the Solara’s second quickest pass last year, the team is anticipating another weekend of record breaking performances as they defend their 2004 XBOX Cup title and take aim for an unprecedented fourth consecutive team title and Arslanian’s third straight championship.

“We love Maryland,” said Arslanian. “We’ve been racing there since 2001 – back when we were racing our Power6-class Supra, so it’s probably as close to a home track on the road for us as you’ll find. The fans are really enthusiastic and have enjoyed the six-second, 200-mph shows we’ve put on for the past two years; we’re ready to take it up a notch for them this year. Hopefully, we can give them a great show and take away our first win of the year too.”

The team will have its work cut out for them though as the best-ever 6.644 time opened up a whole new can of tuning worms. Data from that pass showed that the fuel needs of the new engine program surpass that of last year’s setup. Faced with only a week between races, Ross Machine’s Tom Ross – who custom manufactures the intake manifolds on both the Solara and the team’s new import dragster – picked up the team’s spare manifold yesterday and will be hand delivering the modified manifold on Saturday morning. The Bullish crew will then be pressed for time as they replumb and retune the entire fuel delivery and engine management system.

“Tom (Ross) is an example of the great people we have working on our program. He really is going beyond the call of duty this weekend. Jason Siebels from AEM is another example. I really have to thank AEM for sending Jason out to us from the west coast to help tune the new engine program. He’s really taken a personal interest in helping us that’s beyond what’s expected. His knowledge and insight about tuning and the 2JZ engine program is really impressive. In a very short amount of time, he’s become a very important part of the team. We greatly appreciate his help and can’t wait until he starts tuning our import dragster with AEM software.”

Besides the mid-Atlantic debut of the 2005-spec StreetGlow Solara, the team will also have their new NDRA Pro Extreme Compact Class Bullish Racing AEM Import Dragster on hand for Maryland fans. The twin-turbocharged 3.0 L 2JZ dragster made its debut at the NDRA season-opener in Phoenix and will be making only its second public appearance this weekend. The Bullish team of crew chief Fred Bauer, engine builder Bert Gaertner, clutch tuner (and dragster mastermind) Loui Aspras, team transportation engineer Scott Draper, and team manager/data acquisition engineer Kevin Macvaugh have been putting in extra hours to finalize the import dragster. While the Bullish Racing AEM import dragster will not make its competition debut this weekend, Arslanian and the team are excited that fans will be able to see the dragster before it begins its maiden runs.

“We all have the sense and excitement that we are working on something groundbreaking with the Bullish AEM import dragster. It really reminds us of 2002, when we introduced the Solara “twins”. We thought they would revolutionize the sport at the time, and I think they have. It was the first twin-car concept and I ended up running the first six-second pass in the Solara. We expect the same greatness from our dragster program.”

The event will be taped for broadcast on SPEED Channel’s Nopi TunerVision at a future date. In addition, results of the competition will be posted daily at the series website accessible at www.nopi.com .
