BULLISH AIMS FOR FOURTH CONSECUTIVE WIN AT NHRA ENGLISHTOWN
ENGLISHTOWN, New Jersey (April 28, 2005) – After three consecutive victories in a four week stretch of consecutive NHRA and NDRA events across the country, the Bullish Motor Racing team is looking forward to the Nitto NHRA Sport Compact Nationals, April 30 – May 1, a homecoming event at the legendary Raceway Park in Englishtown, NJ. Bullish team owner and driver Ara Arslanian is looking to extend his win streak to a career best four-straight and improve on his current second place standing in the series. Arslanian is 39 points behind ProRWD category leader Steph Papadakis after two of eleven events in the 2005 NHRA Sport Compact Drag Racing Series.
After a disappointing first round loss at the season opener in Moroso, Arslanian surged to the second place standing on the strength of his victory two weeks ago at the Nitto NHRA Sport Compact Nationals in Las Vegas. The team’s StreetGlow-sponsored Solara then streaked to a third straight final round victory at the third round of the NDRA series seven days later and are looking to capitalize on the momentum.
“Racing in front of a home crowd is special for any racer,” said Arslanian “We’re just extremely lucky to call one of the best drag strips in the world our home track. And even if knowing the track surface like the back of your hand isn’t a home track advantage, having 25,000 people cheering for you definitely is.”
These advantages will come in handy as the most competitive Pro RWD field yet is expected to compete at the eighth edition of the annual Spring Nationals. The team’s venerable Solara, the veteran of the field, will also be counting on the new for 2005 Turbonetics twin-turbocharged HKS 3.4 L Stroker engine program for an edge over the single turbocharged, 3.0 L – powered variants of some competitors. The team is pioneering the dual turbo, stroker configuration and has steadily developed the program in the five races since its debut in March.
“We know were still at the tip of the iceberg with this program, and that just makes all the data we’re seeing even more impressive. We showed a little bit of our hand at Moroso with the 6.64 pass, but we’re not even remotely close to being ‘all-in’ yet. The backbone of our program has been consistency and that’s the goal of our tuning strategy. We might not have the quickest pass of the weekend, but we aim to be able to run our best time every round.”
Arslanian also attributed the conservative tuning strategy as being the main reason for the team’s four series titles – achieved in only three years of competition. While the team’s main focus is on repeatable performance, record breaking performance is still a hallmark of the Bullish Motor Racing team. In fact, it was at Raceway Park in 2002 that Arslanian became the first man to drive to a six-second, import-powered pass in NHRA history. The success at Englishtown continued in the years since, including the team’s last event there – the October 2004 NHRA Sport Compact Fall Nationals, at which Arslanian captured the victory over Steph Papadakis to force a four-way battle for the championship at the 2004 season finale.
“I’m excited. It’s good to be home; we’re going to try to win this one for our hometown fans. Whatever the outcome though, I’m sure it’ll be another special Englishtown event for us and our fans.”
