UBULLISH RACES TO FIRST VICTORY OF SEASON AT NDRA MARYLAND
MECHANICSVILLE, Maryland (April 12, 2005) – In a weekend where any of a dozen or more things could have gone wrong, nothing did – and the Bullish Motor Racing Team stormed to the their first victory of 2005 at the NOPI DC Race Wars, the second round of the NDRA XBOX Cup Racing Series at Maryland International Raceway, April 10-11. Bullish Racing team owner and driver Ara Arslanian delivered the team’s latest XBOX Cup after driving his StreetGlow-sponsored Solara to a 6.751-sec./204.57-mph Pro Compact victory over competitor Manny Cruz’s Nissan Sentra, which clocked a 7.953-sec./168.35-mph pass after a red-light start.
“The first win of the season was a great, great way to cap off a perfect NOPI event,” said Arslanian, the defending Pro Compact champion. “We had a lot on our agenda this past weekend and we managed to accomplish everything; spend time with fans; win the race; and have some fun too. Even with major engine and tune-up changes, the Solara was perfect this weekend. This team consistently impresses me with their dedication to performing at the top of their game, and this win is a credit to their efforts.”
Arslanian and the twin-Turbonetics turbocharger, HKS 3.4L-stroker powered Solara delivered consistent 6.7-sec, 200+ mph performances all weekend on a conservative tune-up. More impressive, the Bullish crew delivered the Solara race-ready on Saturday morning after a busy Friday night track side, where the crew installed a new dual rail fuel injection system (intake manifold, fuel rail, fuel plumbing, and associated tune-up) was installed on the engine program for the first time. Critical parts like a new Ross Machine-fabricated intake manifold were picked up en route to the Maryland track, just outside of Washington, D.C.
With the new fuel system installed, the team elected to pursue a conservative tune-up strategy in order to establish a baseline. The on track results were outstanding, with a 6.755-sec/205.85-mph first pass to take the top qualifying position. The run would stand as the quickest and the fastest qualifying pass and Arslanian continued the 6-second blitz with another 6.833-sec/204.57-mph run during a first round single. The 6.751-sec./204.57-mph winning pass in the final was Arslanian’s best of the weekend and within the realm of some of the Solara’s quickest passes to date. Besides the excitement of the Solara on the track, the Bullish Racing/AEM Import Dragster was creating its own excitement off-track at the NOPI and Turbonetics displays all weekend. Most of the thousands of mid-Atlantic sport compact fans that turned out for the event, stood elbow-to-elbow and twelve-deep to get a glimpse of the first NDRA Pro Extreme Compact class dragster. While the twin-turbo, AEM-tuned 3.0 L 2JZ Inline-6 dragster won’t make its first pass until a later event in the season, the display was an opportunity for Maryland fans to be among the first to see the dragster in person.
“I was really overwhelmed, blown away even, by the enthusiasm and turnout for the event - a lot of them mentioned that they have been following our team since the Supra days (in 2001). The response of the fans to the dragster and our program was phenomenal – and we haven’t even fired it up yet. We can’t wait to get the dragster on the track and give the crowds a real show. We had a great time with the fans and would really like to thank them for stopping by.”
The team plans to turn the boost up at the coming NHRA SummitRacing.Com Nationals, Las Vegas, Nevada, April 15-17, where all NHRA Sport Compact pro categories will be a part of the NHRA POWERade action for the first time in series history. The dual series (NHRA and NDRA) schedule will result in the team’s third consecutive 20+ race schedule – arguably the most demanding in the sport - since the Solara program was introduced in 2002. In fact, the team is in the midst of a 5-consecutive weekend race schedule (not likely duplicated by any professional racing team in any pro series) that only gives a one-week breather following a homecoming race at Englishtown, May 1.
“Running five straight weekends takes a toll on the team, but it’s just another challenge that this team is set to tackle and conquer. This is what we do, and if we’re going to be doing anything – we’re going to be the best at it.”
The NOPI DC event will be broadcast on SPEED Channel’s Nopi TunerVision at a future date. In addition, more information about the event can be found at www.nopi.com.
